USA striker Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton from Monaco collapsed hours before the end of the transfer window on Tuesday night.
Balogun was at the centre of controversy during the FIFA World Cup 2026 when his suspension for USA’s Round of 16 match against Belgium was overturned at the intervention of US President Donald Trump.
The 25-year-old had reportedly undergone his medical at the Liverpool-based club before deciding against making the move back to England.

Some reports said 25-year-old Balogun backed out after the Premier League club tried to negotiate down the initial fee as a result of the issue revealed by the medical, which has not been made public.
The lack of transfer leaves Everton with only one recognised striker, Thierno Barry, at the club after Guinea-Bissau striker Beto departed on deadline day. Winger Jack Grealish and full-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles also joined the club.
Balogun, who was born in New York but grew up in London and came through the Arsenal academy, has scored 31 goals in 91 appearances for Monaco.
