After PM Modi’s appeal on foreign travel, gold and WFH, Kejriwal raised questions, asked- Is the country in economic crisis?

Political debate has intensified regarding the economic condition of the country and recently the suggestions related to energy saving. Former Chief Minister of Delhi and National Convenor of Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal has demanded from the Central Government to give clarity regarding the economic situation of the country. Appealing to the Prime Minister, Kejriwal said that after suggestions like saving foreign exchange and reducing the consumption of petrol and diesel, the question is arising in the minds of people whether the country is moving towards a situation of economic pressure or crisis. He said that such a public appeal has never been seen before, hence the government should present the real picture of the country’s economic situation, so that confusion does not arise.

Kejriwal said that the Prime Minister has given suggestions to the citizens like cutting down on food and drinks, unnecessary travel, reducing foreign trips and reducing purchase of precious items like gold, which are not seen under normal circumstances. He raised questions whether this is a sign of any economic pressure or emergency. Kejriwal also said that such a scenario has never been seen before in the country, hence the government should clarify the situation. The AAP leader appealed to the Central Government to present the real economic situation of the country with transparency, so that no confusion or concern is spread among the public.

In his address during a public meeting in Telangana, the Prime Minister had appealed to the citizens not to buy gold for a year, reduce the consumption of oil in food and cut down on foreign trips. Emphasizing on saving foreign exchange, he also talked about adopting systems like work from home and car pooling. He said that these measures can help in saving resources and maintaining economic balance.

Sanjay Singh targeted PM Modi

Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has made a scathing attack on the Central Government. Sanjay Singh alleged that on one hand the government is appealing to the general public to reduce expenditure and consumption, while on the other hand huge resources are being used in large-scale political rallies and foreign trips. He said that economic pressure is being put on the public, while the people in power themselves are involved in expensive programs. He also said that it is not fair to expect more restraint from the common people amid the rising prices of gas, petrol and diesel. According to him, the public is being given responsibilities in the name of “patriotism”, while the actual economic burden is continuously increasing.

Sanjay Singh said that on one hand the Prime Minister is going on foreign trips, including UAE tour, while on the other hand the general public is being appealed to reduce expenses, make sacrifices and save. Calling it an unbalanced policy, he raised questions whether only the public would bear the economic burden. He also said that common citizens have to struggle with inflation and rising expenses, while there seems to be no check on those in power. According to him, the public is constantly being expected to exercise restraint in the name of “patriotism”.

What appeal has PM Modi made?

The Prime Minister said that the Central Government is making continuous efforts to save the country from the adverse effects of war-like situations. He appealed to the citizens to cooperate in dealing with the challenges and contribute in maintaining the economic stability of the country. Addressing a rally organized by the Telangana unit of the BJP, the Prime Minister said global tensions and wars have impacted the prices of essential commodities like petrol, diesel and fertilizers, increasing pressure on the supply chain.

He appealed to citizens to use petrol and diesel judiciously, make more use of metro rail in cities, adopt car pooling, promote electric vehicles and use rail services to send parcels. Apart from this, he also suggested adopting arrangements like Work from Home (WFH) so that unnecessary travel and fuel consumption can be reduced. The Prime Minister also stressed on reducing the consumption of edible oil, reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, promoting natural farming and adopting indigenous products. He said that these measures are aimed at making the country self-reliant and reducing the pressure on foreign exchange, so that the economy can be kept strong amid the global crisis.
