Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the death of Indian crew member in the Strait of Hormuz, raised the issue of security with Iran
New Delhi, 14 July. The Ministry of External Affairs has expressed deep concern over the death of an Indian crew member in the attack near the Strait of Hormuz in the territorial waters of Oman. Along with this, India has also lodged a strong protest with Iran over the incident and has demanded to stop such attacks immediately.
“We issued an official statement after Iran’s deputy mission chief was summoned,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at the weekly media briefing on Tuesday. We expressed our deep concern to him and strongly condemned the incident that happened.
Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘We lost a precious Indian citizen in this attack. Several Indian civilians have been injured, two of whom are in critical condition. We lodged our strong protest with the Iranian side on this matter and clearly stated that the attacks which we have condemned should be stopped immediately.
One crew member killed, 8 others injured in Iranian cruise missile attacks
It is noteworthy that two Iranian cruise missiles targeted two tankers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Strait of Hormuz in the sea area of Oman. One Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured in the Iranian strike, Emirates News Agency quoted the Defense Ministry as saying on Tuesday.
Six Indians and two Ukrainian citizens were among the injured.
According to the report, both the tankers, named Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, were passing through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. Both tankers were affected during the attack. An Indian crew member aboard the Mombasa was killed and eight others were injured in the attack. The condition of four of them is said to be serious. According to Xinhua news agency, the injured include six Indians and two Ukrainian citizens.
Deputy Chief of Mission of Iran Embassy in New Delhi summoned
The Ministry of External Affairs said that this morning the Ministry summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Iran Embassy in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest with him against these attacks. The Ministry stressed that the targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must stop, so that free and unhindered navigation and trade through the region’s international waterways can be restored as soon as possible in accordance with international law.
