Former Justice Yashwant Verma Cash Case: The inquiry committee report into the former Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Verma cash case has been presented in the Lok Sabha. The report of the inquiry committee was presented in Parliament on Wednesday (12 August). In the report, all the allegations against Yashwant Verma including corruption have been proved true. Based on this, further necessary action will be taken as per law.
In fact, after a fire in his official residence in March 2025, it was alleged that a huge amount of burnt notes and cash were found in the storeroom. During investigation, he was found to have control over the storeroom. After this, in July 2025, more than 200 MPs had signed the proposal to remove him. After this Justice Verma later resigned.
In the report of the Inquiry Committee, all the three allegations leveled against former judge Justice Yashwant Verma have been proved. The inquiry committee has found all the three charges, Articles of Charge I, II and III, leveled against the judge to be proven. The committee proved the three charges against him. They include allegations of first – undeclared cash, second – negligence in preservation of evidence and third – evasiveness and unsatisfactory reply.
Know what is the whole controversy
Let us tell you that this whole controversy started on the night of 14 March 2025. A fire broke out in the official residence of Delhi High Court judge Justice Verma. Firefighters who arrived to extinguish the fire found a huge amount of burnt cash in the storeroom. After this Justice Verma resigned. However, the Law Ministry has not yet notified his resignation. After the controversy, he was sent back to his native High Court i.e. Allahabad High Court. In July 2025, more than 200 MPs had signed the proposal to remove the judge. After this, in August last year, Birla had formed a three-member judge inquiry committee. The internal committee formed by the then Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna had found in its investigation that Justice Verma had direct or indirect control over the storeroom where the cash was found hidden.
According to the committee, the judge could not give a satisfactory explanation regarding the presence, source and ownership of the cash. Therefore the committee considered this allegation proved. The committee found that the physical evidence related to the case was not properly secured and preserved. Changes in the condition of the storeroom before legal sealing and inspection came to light.
