Lucknow: A horrific road accident on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway near the Poonch police station area on Friday morning at around 10:30 a.m. stunned the entire area. Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of former MP and former mafia leader Atiq Ahmed, and his companion Sonu were killed in the accident, while three other people in the car were seriously injured. It is being reported that Aban had left with some friends to meet his elder brother, who was lodged in Jhansi jail, but the accident took his life on the way. Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy and Rural SP Arvind Kumar confirmed that the vehicle was traveling at a speed exceeding normal speed, a fact confirmed by an injured passenger in the car.
How the accident happened
According to police and eyewitnesses, the driver suddenly turned the steering to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle, but due to high speed, the Creta car lost control and hit the road divider directly.
Following the accident, nearby villagers rushed to the scene. Several locals, including Deepak Yadav, Ramakant Gautam, and village head Brajesh Yadav, worked tirelessly to pull the injured and deceased from the wrecked vehicle. The injured were immediately rushed to the medical college, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.
Important clues found in the investigation
The forensic team that arrived at the scene and searched the vehicle, recovered a packet of gutkha, a pack of cigarettes, two books, including one in English, a pair of shoes, four pairs of slippers, and four mobile phones. Police are now investigating the call details and data of the recovered phones to gather a complete picture of the activities leading up to the accident.
A family’s controversial history
Aban, a resident of Prayagraj, was Atiq Ahmed’s youngest son and Ahzam’s twin brother. Atiq’s two elder sons, Umar and Ali, are currently incarcerated in various jails in the state, while his third son, Asad, accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed in an STF encounter in Jhansi in April 2023. This latest incident has once again brought old family-related issues into the spotlight.
