Knews Desk – Following the irregularities revealed in the NEET-UG exam and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the central government has taken a major step towards comprehensively reforming the country’s examination system. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a high-level task force for examination reforms, headed by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and a key architect of the Aadhaar project.
Nandan Nilekani is known both domestically and internationally as a successful technology leader, entrepreneur, and digital transformation expert. He founded Infosys in 1981 with N.R. Narayana Murthy and other colleagues. He played a key role in bringing the company to global recognition, leading the company as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from 2002 to 2007. He later returned to Infosys as non-executive chairman in 2017.
Chief Architect of the Aadhaar Project
In 2009, the Indian government appointed Nandan Nilekani as the first Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Under his leadership, the Aadhaar project was developed, which is today considered the world’s largest biometric identification system. This initiative shaped government services and digital identity systems.
In addition to Aadhaar, Nandan Nilekani has also played a significant role in strengthening India Stack and digital public infrastructure. His vision is considered crucial in expanding digital payments and technology-based public services.
This high-powered task force formed by the government will provide recommendations to make the National Testing Agency (NTA) examination system more secure, transparent, and technologically advanced. Its objective is to effectively curb paper leaks and exam-related irregularities.
The committee includes several experts, including former ISRO chief S. Somnath, intelligence officer Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Ankita Karwal, and administrative officer Amrit Lal Meena. With the help of these experts from various fields, a framework for long-term reforms in the examination system will be formulated.
What will be the focus of the task force?
Implementing modern technology and AI-based security measures in the examination system.
Suggesting comprehensive reforms in the structure and functioning of the NTA.
Preparing expert recommendations to prevent paper leaks and exam malpractices.
Making the examination process more transparent, reliable, and secure.
This government decision follows the recommendations of the Prof. K. Radhakrishnan Committee. In line with this, the NTA has recently initiated the recruitment process for four General Managers and 16 Young Professionals to further strengthen the examination system.
