Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, lodged in Sabarmati jail, made a WhatsApp call to America, demanding ransom of Rs 41 crore.

New Delhi: The US Justice Department has made a sensational revelation. According to him, Punjab’s notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, lodged in Gujarat’s high security Sabarmati jail, was making WhatsApp calls and messages from inside the jail. The report said that between December 2025 and January 2026, he tried to demand extortion of about 5 million dollars i.e. about Rs 41 crore from people in Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks, USA. Not only this, America has also accused Lawrence Bishnoi and his associate Goldie Brar, hiding in Canada, of ordering the murder of Khalistani activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. American agencies say that Bishnoi did all this through banned phones and VoIP devices smuggled into the jail cell. According to the report, he was using these devices to carry out crimes like political murder, firing, extortion, drugs and human trafficking. Along with this, it was also said in the American report that Bishnoi’s syndicate deliberately targets religious, social and political leaders. Fear is created among the people by committing high profile incidents and then extortion is collected in the name of that fear.

"There is 24 hour CCTV surveillance"

However, Lawrence Bishnoi’s lawyer Rajni Khatri has termed the American claims as false. He says that his client is in solitary confinement in Sabarmati jail since 2023. It is monitored 24 hours by CCTV cameras. The Home Ministry has put a complete ban on taking him out of jail under Section 303 of BNS. He also conducts court hearings through video conference. If the police of any state wants to interrogate then it has to come to Sabarmati itself. The lawyer raised the question that "If WhatsApp has been used then the authorities should provide concrete evidence. He meets only his legal team." According to Khatri, out of 84 cases registered against Bishnoi, he has been acquitted in 40.

NIA has also made serious allegations

Let us tell you, in 2022, NIA had also said in its charge sheet that Bishnoi runs the gang from jail itself. Referring to the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, the agency had said that Bishnoi was in Tihar at the time of the conspiracy, but he was in constant touch with Goldie Brar. According to NIA, the gang sends a major part of the extortion money to Canada, America, Dubai, Thailand and Australia. Khalistani activities are also funded with this money.

It was said that just as Dawood created the underworld from jail, similarly Bishnoi is also running the entire syndicate from behind the walls of the jail. At present, after the American allegations, the security agencies are again reviewing the security arrangements of Sabarmati Jail.
