Keep these 2 things in mind while buying gold

While buying gold, never forget these two things to keep your hard-earned money safe:

1. Buy only certified gold

Always buy BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) hallmarked gold. Hallmark provides accurate information about the purity of gold and its carat. For this, definitely check the alphanumeric code (like AZ4524) present on the jewellery.

2. Be sure to cross-check the price

Before going to the shop or while shopping, definitely check the price of gold from reliable sources like IBJA. Keep in mind that the rate of gold is decided differently according to the purity of 24 carat, 22 carat and 18 carat.

How to identify real silver? Learn 4 easy home remedies

To avoid fake or adulterated silver in the market, you can take the help of these 4 easy methods:

1. Check with magnets

Pure silver is not attracted towards a magnet. If your silver item sticks to the magnet quickly, it may be adulterated with some other metal. However, this one test alone cannot ensure 100% accuracy.

2. Test with ice

Silver has thermal conductivity i.e. the ability to transfer heat rapidly. When you place a piece of ice on a silver surface, it will melt much faster than normal metals. This is an easy home hint.

3. Pay attention to smell

Pure and genuine silver does not have any sharp or metallic smell. If there is an unusual or strong metallic smell coming from silver utensils or jewellery, there may be a possibility of adulteration in it.

4. Try rubbing with a white cloth

Lightly rub silver jewelery or accessories with a clean white cloth. If a black or dark mark appears on the fabric, it may be due to natural oxidation that occurs on the surface of the silver.

Advice: Home remedies are only meant to give a rough idea. The most reliable way to ensure 100% purity of silver is to get it hallmarked, 925 stamped or tested by a professional purity lab.
