'Gondhal' will hoist India's flag at Oscars 2027, know the special things about the Marathi film

Tezzbuzz Desk – This is considered an important achievement for Marathi cinema. Director, writer and filmmaker Santosh Davkhar's film 'Gondhal' was released in theaters on 14 November 2025. The film has now been selected as India's official entry for Oscars 2027.

Giving information about the selection of the film, Abhay Sinha congratulated the entire team of 'Gondhal'. He said that this is a proud moment for Marathi cinema as well as the entire Indian film industry. He expressed hope that the film will strongly present the art and story of Indian cinema on the international platform.

'Gondhal' was selected by a committee of 14 members. The chairman of this committee was filmmaker P. Seshadri. The committee included directors, actors, producers, cinematographers and editors from different fields of the film industry. The Film Federation of India had received applications from a total of 33 films for Oscar entries this year, which included 14 Hindi films. Of all these films, 'Gondhal' was selected for India's official entry.

This film of Santosh Davkhar has already received international recognition. Davkhar won the Silver Peacock Award for the film at the International Film Festival of India 2025.

The story of the film is based on the backdrop of rural areas of Maharashtra. In the Marathi thriller 'Gondhal', Maharashtra's traditional folk art and religious ritual Gondhal has been made a part of the story. The story of the film revolves around a married woman named Suman.

The film stars Kishore Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, Nishad Bhoir and Anuj Prabhu in important roles. The music of the film has been composed by famous musician Ilaiyaraaja. Now 'Gondhal' will compete on behalf of India in the Best International Feature category at Oscars 2027.
