Tezzbuzz Desk- If you are preparing to get a new passport or re-issue your old passport, then it is important for you to know about the new rules. Passport (Amendment) Rules, 2026 have been notified by the Ministry of External Affairs, which have come into effect from July 1, 2026. Under this, the fees for different passport services have been changed.
According to the new rules, the fee for a 36-page ordinary new passport or re-issue is now Rs 2,500 for applicants aged 18 years and above. Earlier this fee was Rs 1,500. Similarly, the normal fee for 60 page passport has been reduced to Rs 3,500. For Tatkal service, you will have to pay Rs 5,000 for a 36 page passport and Rs 6,000 for a 60 page passport.
The fee for replacing a lost or damaged passport has also been increased. The normal fee for a 36 page passport is Rs 5,000 and the Tatkal fee is Rs 7,500. Whereas for replacement of 60 page passport, the normal fee has been fixed at Rs 6,000 and the instant fee has been fixed at Rs 8,500.
The fees for children's passport have also been changed. The normal fee for a new or re-issued passport of 36 pages for a minor below 18 years of age is Rs 1,750, while for Tatkal service the fee is Rs 4,250. The fee for replacement of lost or damaged minor passport is Rs 4,250 in general category and Rs 6,750 in Tatkal.
An important thing regarding the validity of children's passport is that in the new rules, the validity of ordinary minor passport is fixed for five years or till the child completes 18 years of age, whichever is earlier. That is, it is not right to directly extend the validity till 18 years for children below 15 years of age. Minors aged 15 to 18 years can apply under the category of Ordinary Passport with a validity of 10 years under certain circumstances.
In the new rules, the fee for Police Clearance Certificate i.e. PCC, Surrender Certificate and other prescribed certificates related to passport has also been increased to Rs 750.
Apart from this, there is a provision of 10 percent discount in passport fees for children up to 8 years of age and senior citizens above 60 years of age applying for a new passport. This exemption applies to new passport applications, not re-issues.
