West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suffered a major setback in the Nandigram by-election on Friday. His party's candidate Sanchita Pradhan Dey has withdrawn from the election. After this, Mamata Banerjee announced that her group will now support the Congress candidate on this seat. He also said that he has got the support of Congress in the fight for the party's name and election symbol. He has also promised to support Congress in Assam.
Mamata Banerjee's attitude changed after a political uproar in Kolkata. Mamata's faction had declared Sanchita Pradhan Dey as its candidate on Sunday. Dey then met Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari on Thursday night, and on Friday it was revealed that she had withdrawn her candidature. The nomination process is already over, so there is no time left to field a new candidate.

Who is Sanchita Pradhan Dey?
Sanchita Pradhan Dey is a teacher. He had lost his job when the appointments of 26 thousand teachers related to the alleged recruitment scam were cancelled. He was considered a lesser-known candidate for this strong seat. Nandigram seat has been very important politically for Mamata Banerjee.
Why is Nadingram important?
In the year 2021, Mamata Banerjee was defeated on this seat at the hands of her former close ally and now staunch opponent Shubhendu Adhikari. After this, she reached the Assembly by winning the by-election from Bhawanipur seat. This time he lost on Bhawanipur seat also. Subhendu Adhikari won both Bhawanipur and Nandigram seats.
According to the rules, he had to vacate one seat, hence he left the Nandigram seat, due to which by-election has been decided to be held here on October 6.
