New Delhi. Major health facilities are available for the elderly of the country under the Central Government's Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). On the completion of 8 years of the scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the scheme has played an important role in providing relief to needy families from expensive hospital expenses.
You will get benefits even after 70 years of age
The government has included all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the ambit of the scheme. The special thing is that there is no limit on the income of the family to avail this facility. That means senior citizens who have completed the eligible age can apply for health protection coverage.
Additional cover of ₹5 lakh apart from family
There is a provision of additional health cover for the elderly members of the families who are already included in the Ayushman Yojana who are 70 years of age or above. Such elders can get a separate top-up of up to ₹ 5 lakh in addition to the existing family cover of ₹ 5 lakh.
For more than 1.36 crore elderly peoplecard issued
According to government figures, till now Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards of more than 1.36 crore elderly people have been made. The objective of this facility is to provide financial security to senior citizens from high medical expenses and to make hospital treatment more accessible in case of serious illness.
