Chennai : By now we must have heard many promises during the election period. However, some promises do come true. So many promises remain promises. But, the Tamil Nadu government seems to be an exception to this. Because, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay It has come to light that his government will now give gold rings to new-born children.

Government of Tamil Nadu to set up ‘State Project Program Management Unit’ for implementation, monitoring and management of ‘Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme’ (one gram gold ring for newborn babies) scheme. Every newborn baby born in a government hospital in the state will get a gold ring worth Rs 13,600 as per today’s rates.

The ring would be given to welcome a newborn and bless the family as part of a cultural tradition called ‘Thaiman Seer’ (gift from uncle). A one gram gold ring for babies born in government medical institutions under the Thimman Thanga Mothiram Thittam scheme celebrates the joy of childbirth and the importance of motherhood. So this ring is a symbol of appreciation and remembrance. Former Chief Minister C. N. Vijay will launch the scheme on Annadurai’s birth anniversary, September 15.

The state government order said that through this scheme, the government will play the role of maternal uncle for every child born in its institutions and gift a gold ring as a welcome gift. Ahead of the April 23 assembly elections, Vijay had promised to gift a gold ring to every child born in the state as a maternal uncle. Accordingly, this promise is now being fulfilled.
