The Centre has asked central government employees and officials to voluntarily participate in the Run for Unity scheduled for October 31, 2026, as part of the annual Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an Office Memorandum encouraging ministries, departments and various government offices to promote participation in the event.
Run For Unity To Be Held In Delhi
The event will be held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, October 31.
The programme is scheduled to take place in the morning, with the run expected to begin at 7:20 am and conclude at 7:55 am.
Participants have been asked to reach the venue more than an hour before the programme begins.
Government Employees Asked To Participate Voluntarily
The MHA memorandum does not make participation compulsory.
Instead, it asks ministries and departments to encourage their officers and officials to voluntarily participate so that the event sees wider participation.
The communication has been sent to the Secretaries of central government ministries and departments as well as several constitutional and government institutions.
These include the President’s Secretariat, Vice President’s Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Office, Supreme Court, Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Cabinet Secretariat, UPSC, Central Vigilance Commission, CAG and NITI Aayog.
October 31 Marks Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, is observed every year on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Run for Unity is organised as part of these annual observances.
The event is intended to promote national integration, harmony and physical fitness, with participation traditionally extending beyond government employees to students, police personnel, community groups and members of the public.
Union Home Minister Expected At Event
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend the Delhi programme.
The event will form part of the Centre’s official observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in the national capital.
The MHA has also instructed the concerned sections to upload the memorandum on the government’s e-Office system and the ministry’s website.

The Delhi event is part of a wider nationwide programme associated with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
Run for Unity events are organised in different parts of the country, with participants taking part in public runs and other activities linked to the annual observance.
