Greenfield satellite townships to be built in Bihar, good news for 4 cities

Patna. Bihar government has taken a major step forward on the proposed greenfield satellite township projects to accelerate modern urban development in the state. The government has started preparations to take forward the land acquisition process for the new townships to be developed in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Saran (Sonpur) and Gaya.

Under this, instructions have been issued to conduct Social Impact Assessment (SIA) study in the concerned districts. The government aims to provide planned urban expansion, better civic amenities, new investment and employment opportunities through these new townships.

Instructions issued to District Magistrates

The Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department has directed the District Magistrates of Patna, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Gaya to start the process of social impact assessment soon before starting land acquisition. The study will conduct a detailed assessment of the impact of land acquisition on affected families, their livelihoods, social structure and local resources. Further action will be decided on this basis.

New townships will be developed in four major cities

The four projects the government is working on include:

Patliputra Greenfield Satellite Township – Patna

Tirhut Satellite Township – Muzaffarpur

Hariharnathpur Satellite Township – Sonpur (Saran)

Magadh Greenfield Satellite Township – Gaya

The objective of all these projects is to reduce pressure on rapidly growing urban areas and to develop new residential and commercial areas with modern amenities.

The project will be built on thousands of acres of land

As per the government plan, the core area of Patliputra Greenfield Satellite Township will be developed in approximately 3008 acres. Whereas the core area of Hariharnathpur is proposed in about 2000 acres, Magadh Greenfield Satellite Township is proposed in about 1629 acres and Tirhut Satellite Township is proposed in about 1191 acres. In the first phase, the process of land acquisition for the core area of these projects will be taken forward.

Development with modern facilities

The state government plans to develop better road networks, residential areas, business complexes, public amenities, green areas and modern urban infrastructure in the new township. If required in future, a separate proposal will also be prepared for additional land.

Employment and investment will get a boost

The government believes that with the development of these townships, new industrial, commercial and service areas will develop. This will encourage private investment and create new employment opportunities for local youth. It will also help in balancing the increasing pressure of urban population.
