Gujarat: Blast in illegal firecracker factory in Ahmedabad, 5 people killed, many others injured

Ahmedabad, 18 July. A horrific accident took place in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat on Saturday, when an illegal firecracker factory operated in Mehmadpura behind the RAF camp in Ramol area exploded and caught fire. According to the police, five people died and many others were injured in the accident.

DGP (Zone-1) said that till now 5 people have died and 9 people are injured. He said that on receiving information about the fire in the factory, soldiers from the nearby RAF camp reached there for help. Also, local police and fire teams of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation immediately reached the spot. At present the fire has been brought under control. Ramol police will register a case in this matter under all sections of deliberate murder and Explosives Act and further action will be taken.

Police said that eight injured were sent to LG Hospital in Maninagar for treatment, out of which four people died. A total of six people were brought to Asarwa Civil Hospital, out of which one woman died.

Sector 2 Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Jaipal Singh Rathod said that an illegal firecracker factory was running behind the RAF camp in Ramol police station area. A person named Mehul Dodia was running this firecracker factory. Earlier, the license of Mehul Dodiya was cancelled. The process of registering a case in the entire matter is going on at Ramol Police Station. A case will be registered under murder and other sections.

PM Modi expressed grief over the accident, announced financial help

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the deaths in the accident in the firecracker factory. He said in the X post, ‘My condolences are with the families of the victims in this hour of grief. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is providing all possible help to the affected people. An assistance of Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the families of the deceased from PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund). Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured.
