The WPL 2027 schedule has been announced, and one team making steady progress was eagerly waiting for it. Looking at their upward trend, this could be the season they become champions. We are talking about Gujarat Giants, who built a strong team last season and backed it up with good performances before suffering a setback in the Eliminator.
Gujarat finished last in the first two editions, climbed to third in 2025 and then secured second place in the league stage in 2026. Although they could not reach the final, their improvement gives supporters a strong reason to believe in this squad.
Can Gujarat Giants Turn Progress Into a First Title?
Gujarat already had a settled team, so this auction was about adding options. They retained 15 players and signed G Kamalini, Orla Prendergast and Samaira Raghav to complete an 18-player squad.
None of those additions looks certain to transform their first-choice combination immediately. The bigger challenge is getting the established players to deliver when it matters most. Gujarat have reached consecutive Eliminators; now they need to win the knockout matches that stand between them and the trophy.

Their four overseas places look largely settled, with Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham forming a strong combination. Mooney provides quality at the top, while Devine, Gardner and Wareham offer contributions with both bat and ball.
Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast adds another seam-bowling option, but breaking into that overseas group will be difficult. If conditions demand an extra pacer, Gujarat could consider her in Wareham’s place. That would be a tactical choice based on the surface and the balance they need.
The Indian bowling group includes Renuka Singh Thakur, Kashvee Gautam, Tanuja Kanwer and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. With Bharti Fulmali, Anushka Sharma and Kanika Ahuja among the batting options, Gujarat have the balance to challenge stronger-fancied opponents. If this group delivers together, Gujarat Giants can be a serious dark horse for the WPL 2027 title.
