News India Live, Digital Desk: The results of Gujarat’s local body elections (Municipal Corporation, Municipality and Panchayat) are being declared today. The initial trends and results of the vote counting on Tuesday have made it clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to have unilateral dominance in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state. BJP has won 8 out of 15 municipal corporations in the state and is maintaining a huge lead in the remaining. This election has been disappointing so far for Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Preparations for clean sweep in Ahmedabad and Rajkot. Ahmedabad: BJP has won all the seats in 5 wards of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). BJP’s Payal Ben Patel and Hina Patel won big in ‘Gota’ ward. Rajkot: BJP has achieved a clear majority in Rajkot Municipal Corporation by winning 40 out of 72 seats. Here Congress seems to be limited to only 4 seats. Vadodara: BJP’s Geeta Ben has won in Ward No. 13, while former Congress corporator Balu Surve has had to face defeat. BJP also has the flag in 9 new municipal corporations. This time 9 new municipal corporations were formed in Gujarat (Nadiad, Mehsana, Vapi, Porbandar, Surendranagar, Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi and Anand). According to the trends: BJP has achieved historic victory in Mehsana, Morbi, Nadiad and Vapi Municipal Corporations. Congress is also struggling to open its account in these new corporations. Exciting contest in Surat and the condition of ‘AAP’. In Surat, BJP is leading on 24 seats, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which surprised in the last elections, has got a big blow this time. AAP’s state general secretary Manoj Sorathiya has lost the election from ward number 4 of Surat. However, AAP has won three seats of Umarpada Taluka Panchayat. BJP’s lead in district and taluka panchayats. BJP has also made a big lead in 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats. In the elections held on April 26, more than 67% voting took place in rural areas, which seems to be benefiting the ruling party. It is noteworthy that even before the voting, BJP had won more than 700 seats unopposed. Voting percentage: 55.1% in municipal corporations, while 65.53% voting was recorded in municipalities. Opposition’s position: Congress has been successful in winning panels in some wards (like Bharuch Ward 1), but overall it is far behind. AIMIM’s entry: Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has opened its account by winning three seats in Ward No. 1 of Bhuj.
