Guwahati: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Assam Police claimed to have seized 23,000 Yaba tablets in Cachar district. According to the police, the weight of the seized narcotics is about 25 kg and its value is estimated to be crores of rupees. One person has been arrested during the operation. The police took this action on Tuesday evening on the basis of special intelligence information. According to officials, a truck was stopped and searched in Shivpur area of Lakhipur police station area. During the search, it was discovered that narcotics were hidden in a specially prepared secret chamber inside the vehicle.
Police stopped the truck based on secret information
According to Assam Police officials, they had received specific information regarding possible movement of narcotics in the area. After this, the police team increased surveillance in Shivpur area and stopped the suspicious truck and investigated.
When suspicion increased during the general search of the vehicle, the police investigated the special chamber inside the truck. Officials say that a large quantity of Yaba tablets were recovered from the same chamber.
This action of the police has come at a time when the campaign against drug trafficking and illegal drug networks is being continuously intensified in Assam.
About 25 kilograms of Methamphetamine recovered
Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das has confirmed the recovery. According to him, the total weight of the seized drugs is around 25 kg of Methamphetamine.
Yaba tablets are commonly known as Methamphetamine based synthetic drug. Its illegal trade and smuggling remains a challenge for law-enforcement agencies in many regions.
