Mumbai A religious controversy has arisen over Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan's visit to Kedarnath Temple. Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat on Friday supported Sara Ali Khan in this matter and criticized religious fundamentalists who had raised questions on the actress's temple visit.

'Such people only trouble the society'
Rawat said that one can be deeply spiritual without being fanatic. He issued a detailed statement on X. In this he targeted those who were issuing fatwas and questioning Sara's personal faith. Rawat also warned against the increasing threat of religious extremism in the society. He said that such opportunists exist on both sides. These people harass the society just to attract personal attention.
Harish Rawat's defense
Harish Rawat said in his statement that Sara Ali Khan is the granddaughter of Nawab Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore. She is Saif Ali Khan's daughter and has her own faith. She also follows the religion inherited from her father. He took aim at conservative critics and asked where such intolerance would take the country. Rawat said that there is a difference between devotion and fanaticism. He stressed that if someone has faith in a deity, it should not be stopped.

Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi issued fatwa
Earlier, Bareilly's Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi issued a fatwa. He is the national president of All India Muslim Jamaat. He described Sara Ali Khan's temple visits, worship and rituals as unacceptable (illegitimate) and haram under Islamic law (Sharia). The Maulana urged the actress to seek forgiveness (tauba) from Allah for violating Sharia principles. He told ANI that it is unacceptable under Sharia for any Muslim man or woman to participate in the faith of another religion, pray and perform religious rituals.
Why was the fatwa issued against Sara?
Let us tell you that on Sunday, October 25, Sara was seen standing in the queue for Visiting Kedarnath. After offering prayers, the actress was seen with folded hands outside the temple. After this, in a video statement, Islamic Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi said that worshiping according to any other religion is not permissible under Sharia and is haram. He also asked Sarah to seek forgiveness from Allah and repent “like a guilty person”. In the video, Maulana said that many youth have asked me whether worshiping Sara in Kedarnath is justified according to Sharia? I want to make it clear that such actions are not justified.

This is not the first time that Sara has faced criticism from religious figures for visiting Kedarnath. Even before this, the actress had to face a lot of trolling for visiting the temple. But Sara gave a befitting reply to this. During a press conference in the year 2023, the actress had said that I take my work very seriously. I work for the people, for you. I would feel bad if you don't like my work, but I have my own personal beliefs.
I will go to Ajmer Sharif with the same reverence with which I would go to Bangla Sahib or Mahakal. I will continue to go there. People can say whatever they want, I have no problem. You have to like the energy of a place. I believe in energy.
