Former India captain Harmanpreet Kaur produced a breathtaking late-innings assault, smashing an unbeaten 91 off just 41 deliveries to propel India Women to a commanding 216/7 in 20 overs against Zimbabwe in the third T20I at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Tuesday.
Harmanpreet reached her half-century in just 25 balls, accelerating spectacularly in the closing stages to give India a formidable total. The hosts opted to bat first, aiming to provide their middle-order batters with additional time in the middle.
India got off to an aggressive start through a new opening combination of Shafali Verma and Anushka Sharma. The pair added 54 runs before Anushka departed for 28 in the final over of the Power-play. India finished the first six overs at 59/1, with Shafali looking fluent at the crease.
Zimbabwe managed to slow the scoring after the Power-play, dismissing Niki Prasad for nine. However, Shafali maintained the attacking approach and registered her second consecutive half-century. She eventually fell for a rapid 69 off 37 balls, leaving India at 91/2 at the halfway mark.
Harmanpreet then took control, repeatedly finding the boundary and raising the scoring rate as the innings progressed. Despite India losing wickets in clusters towards the end, her powerful hitting ensured the hosts crossed the 200-run mark.
Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 91 from 41 deliveries, providing the decisive impetus in the final overs. For Zimbabwe, Beloved Biza claimed three wickets but conceded 50 runs in her four overs.
India have already secured the three-match series by winning the first two games and are now aiming to complete a clean sweep against Zimbabwe Women for the first time.
Brief Scores:
India Women: 216/7 in 20 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 91 not out, Shafali Verma 69; Beloved Biza 3/50).
