HCL Invests Rs 14,000 Crore For AI Data Centre With Sarvam AI As Foundation

HCLTech has announced a major investment of ₹14,257 crore to establish its first AI data centre in Bhubaneswar, Odishain partnership with AI startup Sarvam and the Odisha government. The project marks one of India’s biggest investments in AI infrastructure and is expected to strengthen the country’s sovereign AI ecosystem while creating new opportunities for businesses, developers and public sector organisations.

Alongside the AI data centre, HCLTech will also establish a 5,000-seat technology hub in Bhubaneswar, expected to become operational by 2028.

AI Data Centre To Power India’s Sovereign AI Vision

The proposed facility will be located in the upcoming Odisha Sovereign AI Park and will leverage HCLTech’s full-stack AI capabilities together with Sarvam’s foundation AI models.

The platform will develop sector-specific AI solutions for both government and private enterprises, helping organisations deploy advanced AI applications while ensuring greater control over data and digital infrastructure within India.

Boost For India’s AI Infrastructure

The investment reflects the growing focus of Indian technology companies on building AI infrastructure rather than limiting themselves to traditional IT services. As demand for AI computing, cloud services and large language models continues to rise, companies are increasingly investing in high-performance data centres capable of supporting AI training and inference workloads.

The new facility is expected to become an important part of India’s rapidly expanding AI ecosystem.

5,000-Employee Technology Centre Planned

In addition to the data centre, HCLTech will establish a large technology centre in Bhubaneswar that will accommodate around 5,000 professionals. The campus will support AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital engineering and enterprise technology services.

The expansion is expected to generate significant employment opportunities while strengthening Odisha’s position as an emerging technology destination.

Partnership With Sarvam AI

The project builds upon HCLTech’s strategic partnership with Sarvam, one of India’s leading AI startups developing indigenous foundation models. By combining infrastructure, AI models and enterprise solutions, the collaboration aims to deliver complete AI services across multiple industries.

The initiative also aligns with the broader goal of promoting multilingual AI solutions and reducing dependence on foreign AI infrastructure.

Odisha Emerges As A Technology Hub

The announcement highlights Odisha’s growing importance in India’s digital economy. With government support, modern infrastructure and dedicated AI initiatives, the state is positioning itself as a major destination for technology investments and next-generation digital infrastructure.

Officials believe the project will attract additional investments, accelerate innovation and contribute to India’s ambition of becoming a global AI leader.

Summary

HCLTech will invest ₹14,257 crore to establish its first AI data centre in Bhubaneswar in partnership with Sarvam and the Odisha government. The company will also set up a 5,000-seat technology hub by 2028, strengthening India’s sovereign AI ecosystem, boosting employment and positioning Odisha as a key destination for AI and advanced technology investments.
