The Miami Heat will be duking it out for supremacy in the East in the upcoming 2026-27 season. After adding Giannis Antetokounmpo through a blockbuster addition, expectations will be high both internally and externally for the franchise.
That being said, very few people, if at all, are talking about the fact that the Heat actually reunited an underrated championship duo from just a few years back in Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson. Both veteran wings were instrumental in Golden State winning the championship in 2022. Now, they are back together on a different club, but with a similar goal in mind.
The Greek Freak and Bam Adebayo will garner the most attention on the Heat roster next season, but Wiggins and Thompson will also be highly important to their title bid. There is a strong chance that they both end up in the starting lineup, and their individual success could very well determine how far this team can go.
Wiggins had his first full season with Miami last season and did well for the most part. He drained a career-high 41.4 percent of his three-point shots, arming the Heat with a steady three-and-D piece who can be counted on to score when needed and guard different positions.
Thompson is a bit of a question mark due to his decline in recent years, but as long as his role gets streamlined, he should be ripe for a bounce-back campaign. He is still among the most lethal sharpshooters in the league, and when fully engaged, his defensive acuity can still be felt, at least in spurts.
Miami’s road to the championship will not be easy given how improved the East is, but with Wiggins and Thompson giving them a proven one-two punch in the wings, life might just become much easier for the team’s main duo.
