New Delhi : Heat wavesNorth India is literally running away. According to the Meteorological Department, Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar recorded the highest temperature in the country at 48.2 degrees Celsius. A heat wave is declared when the maximum temperature exceeds 45 degrees in the plains; A temperature above 47 degrees Celsius is called a severe heat wave.
Temperatures in Sriganganagar were 5.5 degrees above normal, while other parts of Rajasthan remained at 46 to 47 degrees. Pilani was the second hottest place with 47 degrees. It was followed by Bikaner (46.6), Churu and Jaisalmer (46.4), Phalodi (46.2) and Kota (45.4). Banda district of Uttar Pradesh is the hottest in the state with 47.8 degrees. Prayagraj (46.4), Jhansi (46, Orai (45.6) and Devmali (45.1 degrees) also recorded high temperatures. Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh remained between 45 and 46 degrees.
Meanwhile, the Dehradun Meteorological Center has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for several districts of Uttarakhand, with the possibility of rain, hail and wind in the next few days.
Ten people died in Nagpur
From last few days there is a drastic change in the atmosphere. Life is being disrupted by the heat. On Wednesday, 10 people died in Nagpur railway station and various trains along with the city. In this, 5 passengers died in the city limits, 2 at the station and 3 passengers died inside the trains.
The intense heat and crowding proved fatal
According to railway sources, the condition of passengers is continuously deteriorating due to extreme heat in trains and overcrowding in ordinary coaches. As many coaches do not have adequate ventilation system, the internal temperature is felt higher. Although the cause of these deaths is being attributed to illness by the railways, prima facie the possibility of heat stroke is also being expressed. The GRP has registered a case of sudden death and the bodies of all the deceased have been sent to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem.
