Heavy Grandmaster P Inian wins La Plagne Open International Chess Tournament

Indian Grandmaster P Inian has won the title of the sixth La Plagne Open International Tournament held in France. He won the title while remaining undefeated in the Masters category. 23 year old Iniyan became the champion by scoring 7.5 points in 9 rounds.

 

Inian did not lose a single game in the tournament either. He won 6 matches and drew 3, making him the champion with a clear lead. 142 players from 20 countries participated in this tournament, which was completed on Friday (July 10), which included 13 Grandmasters and 22 International Masters.

Inian got a walkover in the first round

After getting a walkover in the first round and the second round match being a draw, Inian regained its momentum by registering two consecutive wins. After another draw in the fifth round, he almost secured the title by winning three consecutive matches. During this, he defeated Italy’s Grandmaster Luca Moroni, who finished third, and Ukraine’s International Master Daniil Mossov, who finished runner-up, in important matches.

Before the final round, Inian was leading by one point and needed only a draw to win the title. He achieved this target comfortably by playing a draw in the final match against International Master Aronyak Ghosh of India and became the champion. Aronyak Ghosh and Diptayan Ghosh both finished joint third with 6.5 points. This is Inian’s fourth title this year and second classical chess title in 2026.
