‘Be it jail or murder, I will return to Bangladesh’, Sheikh Hasina told December plan
Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina may return to her country in December this year. Just a few days ago he had announced to return to Bangladesh. But then it was not certain that she could return to Dhaka till December. However, Sheikh Hasina has expressed fear of being killed and jailed if she returns to Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina said there was no communication with Dhaka authorities regarding the return. But she can surrender before the court after returning to her country.
Speaking to news agency Reuters, Sheikh Hasina said that her party leaders and she are planning to return to Bangladesh by December. “They may arrest me if I go back,” he said. They may even kill me. Even then I will have to go.

May I die in my land: Hasina
Hasina further said, ‘My party’s leaders and workers are being severely repressed. If death comes, I want it to come to my own land, where my parents are buried and where their blood was shed.
On August 5, 2024, Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country amid violent student protests. Since then he is under protection in India. Mohammad Yunus’ government had raised the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s return with India several times.
Haseena has been sentenced to death
The interim government of Mohammad Yunus had accused Sheikh Hasina of killing and suppressing students. The United Nations also mentioned in its report the killing of 1400 people during the demonstration. The International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh sentenced Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death on 17 November 2025.

‘I am not afraid of death’
Last month, in a conversation with NDTV, Sheikh Hasina had said that the decision against me is not justice. This is illegal, unconstitutional and politically motivated. He claims that the judiciary is being weaponized to make Awami League leaderless. Hasina had also said that she is not afraid of death. In 1975 I lost my parents, brothers and almost my entire family. On August 21, an attempt was made to kill me with a grenade. Many conspiracies were hatched. But I stood with the people by breaking every conspiracy.
