Himachal News: An important step has been taken towards strengthening health facilities for cancer patients in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the state-of-the-art Cancer Care Center built at a cost of about Rs 60 crore at Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Ner Chowk. Along with this, facilities of modern medical equipment have also been provided in the hospital.
Linear accelerator and 3-Tesla MRI facility
Linear accelerator, CT simulator and 3-Tesla MRI machine have been installed in the Cancer Care Centre. The linear accelerator will help target cancer cells during radiation therapy, while the CT simulator will be useful in positioning the tumor and planning radiation treatment.
At the same time, the 3-Tesla MRI machine will help in more detailed imaging of the internal organs and tissues of the body. This is expected to help in improving the process of diagnosis and treatment of other serious diseases including cancer.
Patients of these districts including Mandi will get benefits
Apart from Mandi, patients from districts like Kullu, Bilaspur and Lahaul-Spiti are also expected to benefit from the opening of the Cancer Care Centre. This may reduce the need for patients to go to big hospitals in Shimla or Chandigarh for serious cancer treatment and radiation therapy.
Foundation stone of building of PET-CT center also laid
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of the building of PET-CT center in the Medical College to be built at a cost of about Rs 2 crore. This building is proposed to be built on about five bighas of land in Bhangrotu ground. A facility like PET-CT is useful in staging cancer and assessing the spread of the disease in the body.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development works in Balh Assembly constituency. After this, he reached Ner Chowk Medical College and inaugurated the Cancer Care Center and 3-Tesla MRI facility and also interacted with the faculty members of the Medical College.
