New Delhi. There has been another huge and historic addition to the maritime warfare capability of the Indian Navy. Giving a new impetus to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in the defense sector, the Defense Ministry has officially approved a major defense deal for the purchase of BrahMos fire control systems and launchers for the advanced warships of the Indian Navy.
This historic agreement worth Rs 661.50 crore has been signed with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited. This strategic move will not only increase the lethal strike capability and precision targeting power of the Indian Navy at maritime borders manifold, but will also further elevate India's stature in indigenous defense manufacturing.
New example of indigenous technology: Buy category with 68% indigenous content
The Defense Ministry has approved this entire defense deal under the highest priority buy category under the defense acquisition process: –
68% indigenous content: At least 68% of the content in this state-of-the-art fire control system and launchers will be completely indigenous, reflecting the expertise of Indian defense scientists and engineers.
Wings to MSMEs and Industries: There will be direct participation of many small and big industries of the country and Russia in this mega project.
New employment opportunities: According to the Defense Ministry, the implementation of this 3-year project will create thousands of new employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled technical personnel in the country for the next three years.
BrahMos: India's deadliest 'supersonic shield' in the sea
BrahMos is India's major surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile system, which is among the fastest and most accurate missiles in the world:-
Accurate aiming and quick response: With the help of the new fire control system deployed on the Navy's forward warships, BrahMos missiles will be able to destroy enemy ships, coastal military bases and strategic targets with complete accuracy in the blink of an eye.
Guarantee of maritime supremacy: This new indigenous system will provide an invincible and decisive edge to the Indian Navy amid the increasing actions of China and other hostile forces in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific region.
