Historic decision of Supreme Court: Housewives should not just be called ‘homemakers’ but they should be called ‘nation builders’.

New Delhi, June 11. The Supreme Court has delivered a landmark judgment giving important economic and social recognition to the unpaid domestic labor of housewives. This decision of the apex court will help in getting proper compensation to the families of accident victims and is expected to give new recognition to the contribution of housewives in the society.

The Supreme Court said that the contribution of a housewife is not limited to the family only, but she also plays an important role in human resource development and nation building. Therefore he should be called ‘Nation Builder’ instead of just ‘Homemaker’.

Economic value of home care loss 30,000 Rs fixed per month

A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Karol issued new guidelines for determining compensation in cases of housewives who are accident victims. The court has determined the economic value of ‘domestic care loss’ at Rs 30,000 per month. The bench clarified that the household work done by the wife and housewife, raising children, taking care of the family and their contribution in building the society is very valuable from the economic point of view. The court said that when the family is deprived of this service due to an accident, this loss must be taken into account while deciding the compensation.

Now this instruction will be followed in all motor accident compensation claims

The Supreme Court also said that this new principle will be in addition to the compensation standards laid down in earlier judgments and will now be followed in all motor accident compensation claims. The court appealed to the Chief Justices of all High Courts to regularly monitor motor accident compensation cases, so that the victims’ families get timely justice. The Court also stressed on strict adherence to the ‘summary procedure’ under Section 169 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MV Act).

The work of a housewife cannot be ignored as merely an emotional contribution.

The apex court said in its decision that the work of a housewife is 24 hours, which includes cooking, cleaning, taking care of children, serving the elderly and managing the family. This cannot be ignored as merely an emotional contribution. This decision of the court is being considered important for those millions of housewives, whose domestic labor has not been adequately recognized from the economic point of view for a long time.
