The Indian men's hockey team has suffered a crushing 4-2 defeat against England in the Pool D match of the Hockey World Cup 2026. With this defeat, India's 32-year-old win drought against the British in the history of the World Cup could not end once again. India last defeated England in the World Cup in 1994. In Pool D, the Indian team has now registered one win and one loss in two matches.
In the beginning of the match, the Indian team captained by Harmanpreet Singh performed brilliantly. England took the lead in the 14th minute through Nicholas Bandurak's goal, but in the second quarter, captain Harmanpreet Singh leveled the score at 1-1. After this, in the 25th minute, Dilpreet Singh scored another goal to give India a 2-1 lead and the team kept its hold strong till the first half.
However, the tables turned completely in the second half. The English team made a strong comeback and scored two goals in the third quarter. Stuart Rushmeyer in the 38th minute and Henry Croft in the 43rd minute scored to put England ahead. After this, the Indian team could not score any goal even in the fourth quarter and in the 55th minute, Nicholas Bandurak scored his second goal making the score 4-2.
