Ajinkya Rahane has questioned Sanju Samson’s omission from India’s T20I squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour. The experienced batter shared his thoughts on Instagram, saying he hoped the selectors had spoken to Samson before leaving him out. Backing the wicketkeeper-batter, Rahane also expressed confidence that he would return to the national team soon.

Sharing his reaction, Rahane wrote, “Hope there has been some communication with @imsanjusamson. Find it odd that the hero of our recent T20 WC win has been left out of the T20 squad to Zimbabwe. Hope to see him back in the team soon.” His comments came shortly after India announced the squad for the Zimbabwe series, with Samson’s absence becoming one of the biggest talking points following his role in India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign.

Shreyas Iyer to Lead India as BCCI Unveils Zimbabwe T20I Squad

The BCCI announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe on July 6. Ashok Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Yash Thakur received their maiden India call-ups, while Shreyas Iyer was named captain of the side. The series is scheduled to begin on July 23 in Harare.

India will play all three matches at the Harare Sports Club, with the fixtures set for July 23, 25 and 26. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi retained his place in the squad after making his international debut during the ongoing T20I series against England. Tilak Varma was appointed vice-captain for the tour.
