How is a political party formed in India? Know the entire process between the announcement of Annamalai’s new party

Knews Desk- Former leader of Bharatiya Janata Party K. After Annamalai announced the formation of a new political party ‘We the Leaders’, the process of registration of political parties in the country has once again come into discussion. In India, any citizen or group of citizens can form a political party, but for this it is necessary to follow the rules set by the Election Commission.

For the formation of a new political party, first of all the constitution of the organization is prepared, which includes the objectives, functioning, membership rules and organizational structure of the party. After this the party has to apply for registration with the Election Commission within 30 days from the date of formation.

The party’s constitution, list of office bearers, details of members and other necessary documents are submitted along with the application. Apart from this, the party also has to declare that it will follow the principles of the Indian Constitution, democracy, socialism, secularism and unity and integrity of the country.

After receiving the application, the Election Commission issues a public notice so that if any person or organization has any objection to the name of the party or its formation, he can express his views. After scrutiny of objections and documents, the Commission grants the party the status of registered political party.

However, even after getting registration, a party does not immediately get the status of a state or national party. For this, criteria set on the basis of performance in elections have to be fulfilled. The Election Commission awards state level or national party status to a party on the basis of vote percentage and seat performance.

After the announcement of Annamalai’s new party, discussions have intensified in political circles. In such a situation, curiosity has increased among people to know what is the process of forming a new political party in India and getting it official recognition.
