New Delhi. Central government employees and pensioners have high expectations from the 8th Pay Commission. Discussions are going on regarding what will be the minimum salary and pension in the new salary structure. Meanwhile, Karnataka Posts and Telecommunications Pensioners Association has put forward many important suggestions before the Commission including increase in salary and pension.
Demand for minimum salary of Rs 69 thousand
The organization has proposed to increase the minimum basic salary from the current Rs 18,000 to Rs 69,000. For this, a demand has been made to implement 3.833 fitment factor. Fitment factor is the multiplier based on which the old basic pay is calculated to be fixed in the new pay structure.
However, this is the demand of the employee-pensioners organization. The government has not yet approved it. What the final salary will be will depend on the recommendations of the commission and the decision of the government.
Proposal to increase minimum pension to Rs 34,470
The pensioners organization has also demanded to increase the minimum pension. According to the proposal, the existing minimum pension of Rs 9,000 should be increased to Rs 34,470. This calculation has also been done on the basis of 3.833 fitment factor. At present this amount cannot be considered final.
Demand to increase annual salary increase
The organization has suggested increasing the annual salary increase rate from 3 percent to 6 percent. Apart from this, there has been a demand to give more importance to inflation, family needs and everyday expenses in determining the minimum wage. The suggestion to change the Ackroyd formula is also part of this.
There has been talk of changing the existing calculation system to assess the needs of the family and also include the expenses of the parents.
Have these demands been approved?
At present, no final government approval has been received regarding minimum salary of Rs 69,000, minimum pension of Rs 34,470 and fitment factor of 3.833. These are suggestions given by the organization. Only after the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission and the approval of the Central Government will it be clear how much relief the employees and pensioners will actually get.
