Chandipura virus belongs to the Rhabdoviridae family. This virus was first discovered in 1965 in Chandipura village of Maharashtra. Infection with this virus causes swelling in the brain, which can be fatal. It is believed that Chandipura virus spreads through the bite of sand flies. Apart from this, many studies have confirmed the spread of Chandipura virus through mosquitoes and some other insects. There is no evidence of Chandipura virus spreading through sitting together, shaking hands or eating from the same utensils. This means it does not spread through touching. In case of Chandipura virus, symptoms like high fever, headache, body weakness, vomiting occur. In case of severe form, the patient starts having seizures. Along with this, conditions like unconsciousness or confusion also occur.
The condition of children suffering from Chandipura virus worsens within 24 to 48 hours. Therefore, it is important to show the child to a doctor immediately even if he has symptoms like viral fever. To prevent Chandipura virus, children should be made to wear full-sleeved clothes to protect them from sand flies and mosquito bites. Along with this, steps like making the child sleep under a mosquito net, keeping the house and surroundings clean, not allowing water to accumulate anywhere should also be taken. Do not give any medicine to the child on your own thinking it to be a normal viral fever. Take him to a doctor immediately. By testing the sample, it can be known whether the child is suffering from Chandipura virus or not.
