Howrah’s busy road came to a standstill due to rain for an hour. Due to sudden heavy rain on Friday afternoon, many parts of National Highway No. 16 were submerged in water. Common people and drivers are facing problems due to accumulation of water in various areas including Nibra, Ankurhati, Alampur, Dhulagarh. The situation becomes even more difficult as the service road also almost merges with the National Highway.
National Highway No. 16 flooded due to heavy rains
Heavy rain started in various parts of Howrah from Friday afternoon. Due to continuous rain for about an hour, water started accumulating rapidly in various parts of the National Highway. As a result, traffic on this busy road has been disrupted.
From Nibra to Dhulagarh – same picture at different places
The problem of water logging was not limited to one place. Rain water accumulated in many parts of the national highway including Nibra, Ankurhati, Alampur and Dhulagarh. At some places, most of the road was submerged in water, while at some places motorists were seen choosing roads due to partial waterlogging. Especially for small car and bike drivers, it is difficult to understand how deep the water is.
National Highway and Service Road became one
Due to waterlogging, there is no gap left between national highways and service roads at many places. Only the barricades remained standing in the middle. On the other hand, the previous poor condition of the service road has also made the situation more complicated. Big potholes have formed at many places on the road. The risk of accidents increases due to lack of visibility due to accumulation of water on potholes.
Bike and small car drivers face more problems
Bike riders and small car drivers are facing the most problems due to waterlogged roads. It is not possible to understand how much water is there on the road; many people have to drive slowly. At some places, drivers are also seen trying to pass through other parts while avoiding water. As a result, the normal speed of traffic on the busy national highway reduces.
Ankurhati market also affected
Water logging has also affected the people coming to Ankurhati market. Roads and surrounding areas are submerged in rain water, causing problems to the common people. Apart from the National Highway, the condition of service roads around the huts is also bad, due to which the problems of the local people have increased.
The service road has been bad since the beginning of the rainy season.
In the local situation, new questions are being raised regarding service road infrastructure. It is said that the condition of this road has been bad since the beginning of the rainy season. As time progressed, the condition of the roads deteriorated. Potholes become even more dangerous when water accumulates during rains. The local people got some relief when the rain stopped for a few days, but due to heavy rain the problem came to the fore again.
Most of the water is in the lane leading to Kolaghat.
It is known that the problem of water logging is highest between Saraswati bridge in the stretch from Nibra to Ankurhati on the lane going to Kolaghat. Vehicular movement has also been disrupted due to this important section being submerged in water. Local people fear that if continuous rains continue, the situation may worsen.
