Huawei has launched the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China. This model brings the next step in tri-fold phone design. The company had already pointed to a September 7 event, and News covered the expected launch date earlier. Now that the phone is out, attention moves from the release timing and the rumored look to what is actually inside. That includes the hardware, camera setup, software, cost, and where people can buy it.
Mate XT 2: A New Folding Layout
The main shift is how it folds. The earlier Mate XT line folded outward. The Mate XT 2 folds inward instead. Huawei says this helps keep the main flexible screen covered when the phone is shut. Along with the change in direction, Huawei updated the hinge. The goal is a smoother feel when opening and closing.
Once you open it all the way, there is a 10.2-inch OLED panel. The resolution is listed as 3K. The screen can run from 1 to 120Hz with adaptive LTPO. It also supports high-frequency PWM dimming. When the phone is closed, a 6.5-inch cover display is available. With that, the Mate XT 2 can be used in a more normal single-screen style for daily tasks.
Huawei lists the unfolded thickness at 3.5mm and a weight of 299 grams. The device is rated for dust and water with IP58 and IP59. Huawei also notes that this is not a professional waterproof phone.
Privacy Screen is now a key part of Mate XT 2
Huawei also adds what it calls the Lingdun privacy display. It aims to cut down side viewing once privacy mode turns on. That way, people can check private details in public without as much exposure.
Huawei says the panel uses pixel control that works on its own. It can change the side viewing angle from wide to narrow. At the same time, it keeps the same front resolution. The privacy display comes on some versions. It is not on every model.

The Mate XT 2 is the first Huawei phone with the Kirin 9050 Pro. Huawei Central says this chip uses a LogicFolding design. It also claims a 46% jump in performance compared with the Kirin 9030 Pro.
Huawei’s own product page frames the chipset as part of a wider system plan with HarmonyOS 7. It also points to on-device AI and tighter work between software and hardware. The phone includes a cooling setup with a big vapor chamber. It also uses graphene thermal material.

Users get a 50MP main sensor at 1/1.28 inch. It also uses a variable aperture. There is OIS too. Huawei adds its RYYB pixel tech. Next to the main lens sits a 40MP ultra-wide camera. A 50MP periscope telephoto camera is also included. That telephoto gives 3.5x optical zoom. A multispectral camera rounds out the group to help with better color detail.
