Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, attended an event in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where she gave a surprising answer to journalists’ questions. Bedi clearly stated that she does not want to contest elections again on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. When journalists asked her questions about the Cockroach Janata Party and Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, Kiran avoided answering the question. Furthermore, she praised Kanpur’s air services. Bedi also stated that she is working to develop the skills of the youth.
Kiran Bedi visited Kanpur on Sunday to attend a Rotarian event. Following the event, she gave an interview to journalists, where she spoke on topics ranging from politics to skill development for the country’s youth. Kiran Bedi told reporters, “I won’t make the mistake of contesting elections again on a BJP ticket.” The reporters then asked, “What are your thoughts on the Cockroach Janata Party movement?” Kiran replied, “I don’t follow them, so I won’t answer that question.”
Kiran also praised the airport system in Kanpur. She said, “Earlier, we had to fly to Lucknow, then travel through bad roads to Kanpur.” Kiran Bedi also revealed that on her 77th birthday, she launched a new startup that is beneficial to today’s youth. She said she launched the Skill Exchange startup, which works to develop the skills of young people.
When did you contest elections with BJP?
In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Kiran Bedi contested the Krishna Nagar constituency on a BJP ticket. She lost the seat, and the Aam Aadmi Party candidate won. Following her defeat, Kiran Bedi declared that she would never contest elections again.
Subsequently, Kiran Bedi was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry by the BJP government on May 29, 2016. She served as Lieutenant Governor for four years. She was removed from her post on February 16, 2021.
