A tragic incident shook the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi campus on Saturday morning after a 31-year-old MSc Physics student allegedly died by suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of a campus building.
According to police officials, a PCR call regarding the incident was received around 8:33 am, following which a team from Kishangarh Police Station reached the spot. The student was immediately taken to the IIT Delhi campus hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Student Entered IIT Delhi Campus In Morning
Police said the student entered the IIT Delhi campus through the main gate at around 8:00 am. He later went to the lecture hall complex and took an elevator to the sixth floor, from where he allegedly jumped from the front side of the building.
Following the incident, crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams were called to the spot. Officials conducted an examination and collected evidence as part of the investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed that no injury marks were found on the body apart from those caused due to the fall.
No Suicide Note Found, Mobile Phone Recovered
Police officials said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. A mobile phone found in the student’s possession has been taken for examination as part of the investigation.
Authorities are also collecting counseling records and other relevant details from the IIT Delhi administration to understand the circumstances that may have led to the incident.
The police are currently verifying all available information and further legal action will be taken according to the findings of the investigation.
Another Student Suicide Case Reported In Delhi
In a separate incident, a 19-year-old third-year BSc Nursing student allegedly died by suicide at a hostel room in Delhi's Rajinder Nagar area.
Police said the student, a resident of Najafgarh, was studying nursing at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Fellow students reportedly found her body on Friday and took her to the hospital, following which authorities informed the police.
