Smugglers were carrying boxes of liquor hidden under foam mattresses in the truck.
Jaipur. In Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, police have seized illicit liquor worth about Rs 1 crore and arrested two smugglers. Officials said the seized liquor was being taken for illegal supply in Gujarat.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Dalip alias Deep and Vikram, residents of Netrana, Gogamedi. 530 boxes of Chandigarh manufactured liquor were recovered from their possession, which contained a total of 25440 bottles.
Hanumangarh Superintendent of Police B. Aditya said that the accused were hiding liquor boxes under foam mattresses in the truck to avoid police investigation. On receiving the information, the police team stopped the truck and searched it near Canal Colony of Bhadra town on Wednesday night. During the search, 530 boxes of English liquor of different brands were recovered.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused told that they had purchased this liquor from Chandigarh and planned to take it to Gujarat. According to the police, both the accused have already been named in liquor smuggling cases. The police have registered a case under sections of the Rajasthan Excise Act and started investigation.
