A major update has arrived for LPG cylinder users. Earlier this month, on August 1st, oil marketing companies significantly reduced LPG cylinder prices by up to ₹209. Earlier, on July 1st, commercial cylinder prices were also reduced by up to ₹182. However, no new price changes have been made today. Commercial and domestic gas cylinder prices remain unchanged.
Today’s LPG prices in major cities
Gas prices vary across different cities across the country. For example, in Thiruvananthapuram, a domestic gas cylinder costs ₹951.
On the other hand, if we look at the commercial cylinder front, its price in New Delhi is Rs 3113.50 and the price of commercial cylinder in Thiruvananthapuram is Rs 3152.
Domestic gas prices had risen steadily since the war.
Domestic LPG cylinder prices have seen two price hikes since the global war began. The first spike occurred in March, when oil marketing companies raised prices by ₹60. This was followed by another price hike in June, when domestic cylinder prices were increased by ₹29.
Strict changes made in booking rules
Since the outbreak of international tensions and war, the government has significantly tightened LPG booking rules. To prevent fraud, KYC has been made mandatory.
Additionally, the government has set a mandatory 45-day booking interval for gas cylinders in rural areas, while this limit has been reduced to 25 days for urban consumers. Customers can no longer rebook before the deadline.
OTP delivery implemented to prevent black marketing
To strengthen security and completely curb gas black marketing, LPG cylinder delivery has now become completely OTP-based. This means that no customer will receive a cylinder without an OTP received on their registered mobile number. The primary objective of these new regulations is to bring transparency to gas distribution and prevent black marketing.
