Tezzbuzz Desk- The total amount of PM CARES Fund has increased to Rs 8,452.07 crore by March 2025. Information related to the fund's income, expenses and investments has been revealed in the latest audited accounts. According to the report, about 92.8 percent of the total amount i.e. Rs 7,846.66 crore was kept as fixed deposits in scheduled banks. The financial year 2024-25 started with a balance of Rs 7,173.03 crore in the PM CARES Fund. The fund received a total of Rs 1,279.91 crore during the year through domestic and foreign donations, interest earnings and various refunds. At the same time, only Rs 87.85 lakh was spent from the fund in the entire financial year. Due to this, the closing balance of the fund increased to Rs 8,452.07 crore by the end of March 2025.
Interest on bank deposits was an important part of the fund's income. PM CARES Fund received interest of Rs 469.38 crore from fixed deposits in 2024-25. Apart from this, interest income of Rs 5.77 crore was earned from savings bank accounts. In this way, interest received from bank deposits played an important role in increasing the total amount of the fund. According to audited data, the fund received donations of Rs 479.04 crore from domestic sources during 2024-25. Rs 92.83 lakh was received from foreign sources. Apart from this, Rs 324.66 crore was received as refund from the agencies implementing the fund. Rs 13.49 lakh was also received as refund of TDS deducted on interest earned on fixed deposits.
PM CARES Fund was established as a public charitable trust on 27 March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its objective was to provide resources for relief and assistance operations in emergency situations. On March 28, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the countrymen to contribute to this fund. According to the data revealed till March 2025, the total amount of the fund has increased as compared to the previous financial year. Major sources of income included interest from fixed deposits, domestic donations and various refunds. At the same time, the expenditure remained quite low during the year. According to data recorded in the audited accounts, most of the fund's money is kept in fixed deposits and the interest received from it remains a major part of its income.
