Tezzbuzz Desk- During the hearing of the ongoing defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the special MP/MLA court of Pune, Veer Savarkar's family member Satyaki Savarkar gave an important statement regarding the Godse brothers. Satyaki Savarkar is the complainant in this case.
On August 17, Rahul Gandhi's lawyer Milind Pawar cross-examined Satyaki Savarkar in the court of special judge Amol Shinde. During this he admitted that his maternal grandfather Gopal Godse was the real brother of Nathuram Godse. He also believed that there was a kinship between the Godse family and the Savarkar family.
During cross-examination, Satyaki Savarkar said that Nathuram Godse and Gopal Godse were active members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh i.e. RSS. He also admitted that Nathuram Godse was associated with Hindu Mahasabha.
Satyaki also told the court that Nathuram Godse, Gopal Godse and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar were made accused in the murder case of Mahatma Gandhi. However, on some questions related to RSS and Gandhi assassination, he said that he had no knowledge.
Satyaki Savarkar's lawyer objected to these questions and said that they have no direct connection with the current defamation case. The court said that the final decision on these objections will be taken during the hearing.
Information also given regarding Gandhi assassination
Satyaki Savarkar also admitted that Nathuram Godse had shot dead Mahatma Gandhi at Birla House in Delhi in 1948. He told that Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were sentenced to death, while Gopal Godse was given life imprisonment.
This defamation case is related to the speech given by Rahul Gandhi in London on March 5, 2023. Satyaki Savarkar alleges that during the speech, Rahul Gandhi made such statements about Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, which he termed false and derogatory. He says that these statements damaged the reputation of Savarkar and his family.
Hearing will be held again on September 1
In this matter, Satyaki Savarkar has also demanded to take a sample of Rahul Gandhi's voice. He says that with this the audio recording of the speech given in London can be matched. The court has fixed September 1 for hearing on this application.
The cross-examination of Satyaki Savarkar will also continue on the same day.
