IND vs AFG 2nd T20I: With an all-round performance, the Indian team defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets in the second T20 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, the Afghanistan team could score only 159 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs against the tight line of Indian bowlers. In response, the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma made the match completely one-sided in the powerplay itself and India took the three-match series by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Nitish and Arshdeep broke the back of batting
In this match, captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first, which the Indian bowlers proved right from the beginning. Arshdeep Singh gave the first blow to Afghanistan at the score of 0 by getting Rahmanullah Gurbaz caught out by Ravi Bishnoi without opening the account in the second over itself. After this, captain Ibrahim Zadran adopted an aggressive stance and hit consecutive fours against Bumrah, Arshdeep, Akshar Patel and Bishnoi and scored 37 runs.
But after pressure from Akshar and Bishnoi, Nitish Reddy got dangerous looking Jadran caught by Bishnoi on his very first ball. After this, Bishnoi sent Sediqullah Atal to the pavilion, while Gulbadin Naib gave an easy catch to Sanju Samson on Nitish’s ball. Apart from these, Darwish Rasooli and Azmatullah Umarzai were caught out by Arshdeep and Akshar by Tilak Verma. In the end, Rashid Khan scored 28 runs and took the team to 159 runs. For India, Reddy took 3 wickets for 24 runs and Arshdeep took 2 wickets for 35 runs. Whereas Bumrah, Bishnoi and Akshar got 1 success each.
Samson and Abhishek’s chaos
In response to the target of 160 runs, the Indian openers hit fours and sixes as soon as they arrived. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma completely spoiled the line-length of the Afghan bowlers by making a stormy partnership of 88 runs in just 6.2 overs for the first wicket. Abhishek played a brilliant inning of 39 runs in 19 balls, hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. At the same time, Sanju Samson gave a befitting reply to the critics and scored 57 runs in 22 balls at a strike rate of 259.09, which included 7 fours and 4 sixes.
After this, Ishan Kishan led the team to victory by playing an unbeaten inning of 38 runs. Tilak Verma also remained unbeaten after scoring 15 runs. Due to which India achieved this target in 14.5 overs at the loss of 3 wickets and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Now the last match of the series will be played on 17th September.
