IND vs AFG ODI: Captain Gill’s match-winning innings and Rohit Sharma’s run-out drama, know the whole story from Mohali to Dharamshala.
New Delhi: In a thrilling match played on Saturday, the Indian team made a winning start to the series by defeating Afghanistan by 5 wickets. This match, which was interrupted due to rain, was reduced to 25-25 overs. Afghanistan, playing first, set a challenging score of 194 runs on the board, which Team India easily achieved with 15 balls remaining. Acting captain Shubhman Gill led from the front and played a match-winning inning of 84 not out.
Was Rohit angry at Shubman after the run-out?
There came a time during the match when there was a misunderstanding while running between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, due to which Rohit had to suffer by losing his wicket. The question in the fans’ minds was whether Rohit got angry at Gill in the dressing room after this incident?
When Gill was asked about this after the match, he smiled and said, “After going to the dressing room, Rohit bhai saw the replay and said that everything is fine, no problem. Anyway, when we last played T20 against Afghanistan, Rohit bhai was run out in a similar manner.”
Memories of that incident of 2024 became fresh
Gill was referring to the T20 match played in Mohali in the year 2024, when Rohit Sharma was the regular T20 captain. In that match also, Rohit had started running by playing the shot, but Gill standing at the non-striker end did not even move from his place. At that time Rohit’s anger was at its peak and he returned to the pavilion grumbling. However, this time nothing like this was seen in Dharamshala.
Indian triumvirate overshadowed Gurbaz’s historic century
The match started quite late due to bad weather in Dharamshala. On being invited to bat, Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz created havoc on the field. He created a sensation by scoring the fastest century in ODI history in just 48 balls. On the basis of his historic innings, Afghanistan scored 194 runs in 25 overs.
In reply, the Indian team started wisely. Apart from Gill’s unbeaten 84 runs, Ishan Kishan made a useful contribution of 34 runs. The remaining task was finally completed by KL Rahul, who gave victory to India by playing a blazing innings of 39 runs in just 19 balls.
