IND Vs SL: What Gill Said After Colombo Test Draw?

IND Vs SL: Team India managed to win the series 1-0 as the second match of the 2-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka ended in a draw, but the way the Sri Lankan team fought in the Colombo Test has impressed everyone. Given the margin of victory the Indian team had won in the first Test in Gaul, their victory in the second match was also considered certain and by the end of the fourth day, Sri Lanka’s defeat seemed almost certain.

However, on the fifth day, the Sri Lankan batsmen performed brilliantly to draw the match. After the match was drawn, the Indian captain Shubman Gill also admitted that the Sri Lankan team played a great game due to which they managed to draw the match.

There was nothing we could have done differently to produce the result: Gill

Speaking to broadcasters after the match, captain Shubman Gill said: “We couldn’t have done anything differently to bring about the result in this match. Nothing to be honest. We fielded almost 250 overs for three consecutive days and we did our best. Sri Lanka played a great game; their batsmen played with great skill and a bit of luck. So I don’t think we could have done anything differently. There were a lot of positives for us and the opposition. “We learned a lot from the team and the way they fought back. We were talking about that during lunch and the T-break. There were a lot of positives for us throughout the series.”

Hopes of reaching the WTC finals still alive

Team India is still 5th in the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC 2025-27) after the Colombo Test draw against Sri Lanka, making the hopes of reaching the final relatively difficult.

Regarding this, Captain Gill said that we still have to play a Test series on the tour of New Zealand in the month of November and then a series will be played at home. In such a situation, the team’s effort will be to perform best in both these series to keep the hopes of reaching the final alive.
