The process of injuries to Indian players is not stopping. In almost every match or every series, some player or the other is getting injured, which is becoming a problem for the team. This time the team’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has got injured. On the very first day of the Colombo Test match, Rishabh Pant got injured while batting, due to which he had to leave the field midway (retire hurt). This has put Team India in trouble on the very first day. Now the question is whether he will be able to come out to bat again?
The second match of the Test series started from Sunday 23 August at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo and once again the Indian team chose to bat first. After the initial wicket fell early, captain Shubman Gill and Devdutt Padikkal made a century partnership for Team India. After Gill was out, Rishabh Pant came out to bat. But before he could spend much time at the crease and show his magic with his bat, he got injured while attempting a shot.
How did Pant get hurt?
This incident happened in the third session, when the fastest bowler of the Sri Lankan team, Lahiru Kumara was bowling. He came round the wicket and bowled a short pitched ball against Pant. Pant tried to play a pull shot on this but he played his shot too quickly, while the ball reached him after stopping for a while. Due to this, Pant could not hit the shot but the ball hit him hard near his left wrist. Pant felt severe pain and the match was stopped. Team India’s physio examined him for some time and applied a bandage. But the pain was increasing, so Pant decided to retire hurt and walked off the field. Ravindra Jadeja was sent to bat in his place.
Will Pant come to bat again?
When Pant returned, he had scored only 3 runs in 15 balls. After his retirement, Team India lost 2 wickets but Pant did not return. In such a situation, there will definitely be an uneasiness whether Pant will come out to bat again in this innings or not? Team India had lost 5 wickets by the end of the first day’s play. In such a situation, Pant is expected to come out to bat again on the second day.
It is believed that as a precaution, the doctors of Team India did not immediately send Pant to bat again, so that he gets enough time to recover from the injury and pain. Let us tell you that while batting in a match in IPL 2026, Pant was hit by the ball in his same hand near the elbow and he went out of the field for some time. In such a situation, there is a need to be cautious regarding Pant.
