Cricket West Indies (CWI) said on Tuesday that Greaves had suffered a calf injury while scoring a century in the first match of the series in Thiruvananthapuram. Justin Greaves played an inning of 101 runs in the first match of the ODI series against India, but the team could not defend the target of 296 runs and India won the match with 8 wickets remaining.
Justin Greaves out of second ODI due to injury
Cricket West Indies said, “Justin Greaves has been ruled out of the second match of the ODI series against India due to a calf injury. Greaves suffered this injury while batting in the first match of the series.”
Greaves' injury is a big blow for the visiting team because in the first ODI, Greaves played an important role in West Indies' batting and scored 135 runs in 19 overs along with John Campbell. After breaking this pair, the Indian bowlers made a comeback in the match. Apart from Greaves, John Campbell scored 62 runs, while Aamir Jangu scored 58 not out, taking West Indies to 295/7. During this innings, Kuldeep Yadav took maximum 4 wickets, while Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets.
In response, India won the match in 41.4 overs. Rohit Sharma made a partnership of 74 runs with captain Shubman Gill for the first wicket. Rohit was out after scoring 32 runs, after which Gill along with Virat Kohli added 151 runs for the second wicket and took the team to the score of 225. Gill returned to the pavilion after scoring 110 runs with 14 boundaries. From here, Kohli made an unbroken partnership of 75 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad (13) and gave an easy victory to Team India.
