Indian boxers ended their 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign with a historic victory in Glasgow, winning a record seven gold medals. India became the first country to win seven gold medals in boxing at a single edition of the Commonwealth Games. Previously, England had won six gold medals twice (London 1934 and Gold Coast 2018), while Canada achieved the feat at Edinburgh 1986.
By reaching the final of Glasgow 2026, India has already secured its most successful boxing campaign in Commonwealth Games history. The event broke the record of nine medals, including three gold, won at Gold Coast 2018. On the final day of boxing, Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg), Preeti Pawar (women’s 54kg), Jasmine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), Priya Ghanghas (women’s 60kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (women’s 70kg), Sachin Siwach (men’s 60kg), and Ankush Panghal (men’s 80kg) topped the podium with gold medals. Olympic medalists Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), Jadumani Singh (men’s 55kg), and Narinder Berwal (men’s +90kg) lost in the finals and had to settle for silver medals.
At the Scottish Eventing Campus, Asian Games bronze medalist Preeti Pawar continued India’s gold medal streak in the women’s 54kg category. She won the gold medal unanimously, defeating Canada’s Scarlett Delgado in the final. Olympian Jasmine Lamboria added another medal to India’s medal tally by defeating Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh in the women’s 57kg final. Walsh won the gold medal in the same category at Birmingham 2022.
Jasmine, the reigning world champion in this category, also won 5-0, like Preeti Pawar, giving Walsh a tough fight. Walsh won the fourth Commonwealth Games medal of her career. This was Jasmine’s second Commonwealth Games medal. She previously won a bronze medal in the women’s 60kg category at Birmingham 2022.
However, in the men’s 55kg category, despite leading in the first round, Jadumani Singh lost 5-0 to Australia’s J Dixon and had to settle for the silver medal.
Sakshi Chaudhary then won another gold medal for India by defeating England’s Ruby White 5-0 in the final of the women’s 51kg category. With this victory, she also broke the 19-year-old English boxer’s 68-fight winning streak in her senior career. Significantly, before making the Indian team for Glasgow 2026, Sakshi defeated two world champions, Nikhat Zareen and Meenakshi Hooda, in the selection trials. Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the 50kg category at Birmingham 2022.
Arundhati Choudhary continued her impressive form in the women’s 70kg category. After defeating Birmingham 2022 gold medallist Rosie Eccles of Wales in the semi-finals, she defeated Olympian and World Championship bronze medallist Chantelle Reid of England 5-0 in the final to become the new Commonwealth champion.
In the women’s final, Lovlina Borgohain lost 4-1 to World Championship bronze medallist Emma-Sue Greentree of Australia, earning her a silver medal in the women’s 75kg category.
In the first round, four of the five judges scored it 10-9 in favor of Emma-Sue Greentree. However, Lovlina Borgohain made a strong comeback in the second round to level the match. Both boxers gave their best in the decisive third round, but the Australian ultimately prevailed.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 60kg category, Sachin Siwach put up a tough fight against Namibia’s Trizen Morning Ndawelo and ultimately won the gold medal by a 3-2 split decision. With this victory, Sachin won his first Commonwealth Games gold medal at the senior level, following his 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games gold.
In the men’s 80kg category, Ankush Panghal won the gold medal by defeating England’s Dimezi Shittu 4-1 in the final. Narinder Berwal then lost 5-0 to England’s Damar Thomas in the men’s +90kg final, settling for the silver medal. He also won a Commonwealth Games silver medal and a bronze medal at the Asian Games.
