Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, leaders of Congress and some allies and took them in a bus.
New Delhi. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were taken into custody by the police from the protest site, Akashvani Bhawan complex, after about eight hours. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and many other Congress leaders were sitting on a dharna at the Akashvani complex since Tuesday afternoon over alleged irregularities in the election system.
At around 8 pm, the police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, leaders of Congress and some allies and took them in a bus. Earlier, MPs from constituent parties of the opposition 'India' alliance took out a march from Sansad Marg to the Election Commission headquarters on Tuesday. However, the police stopped them midway and detained many MPs and leaders.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra entered the Akashvani Bhavan premises and sat under a tree while trying to reach the Election Commission office. The opposition parties demand that the Chief Election Commissioner be removed and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists be cancelled.
