Ranchi, Oct 9:
India will take on West Indies in the second T20 International at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday, looking to build on their opening-match victory and strengthen their position in the five-match series.
India won the first T20I in Lucknow by eight wickets after restricting West Indies to 171. The hosts chased down the target with 32 balls to spare, giving the team a strong start following its gold-medal triumph in the men’s T20 competition at the 2026 Asian Games.
India’s batting line-up will aim to maintain its momentum, while the team management could use the match to assess combinations and the roles of players ahead of a busy international schedule. Sanju Samson’s recent form has attracted attention, although India’s overall batting depth offers the side several options.
The West Indies will be looking to respond after their opening defeat. Their batting unit will need to produce a more competitive total or put greater pressure on India during the chase. The visitors will also be keen to make better use of the powerplay and middle overs.
The Ranchi contest is the second of five matches in the series. The teams are scheduled to meet again in Indore on October 11, Hyderabad on October 14 and Bengaluru on October 17.
The match is expected to provide both sides with another opportunity to test their combinations and build consistency in the shortest format.
